Creating a purposeful blur
~There are lots of ways that you can take photos, but have you ever thought about moving the camera on purpose as you take a photo to create blur?
For example:
- take a selfie, keep your arms still and camera pointed at you, but spin around on the spot and watch the background blur
- Use a 'zoom burst' effect by zooming in when you take a photo on a longer shutter speed than normal
- twist/rotate your camera slightly as you take a photo to get a circular blur
- Push your camera away from you/pull your camera towards you as you take your photo
- Swing your camera at arms length, trying different shutter speeds to see the effect you get.
Below are a few examples

Test out the possibilities for capturing blur through movement and zoom using a phone app such as Slow Shutter Fast Cam
Work in pairs to take multiple portrait photographs using different techniques and settings and upload them into a gallery on your skills development page. Put a title of 'Experimental Shutter Speed' above your photos, and write a brief explanation of how you created them, which were most and least successful and why.

The brief: Horror Movie
Produce 2+ outcomes which demonstrate your understanding of shutter speed to suggest the feeling of a horror movie.
Task 1: RESEARCH and PLAN!
carry out research into ideas for using Shutter speed and camera movement to respond to the brief.
Task 2: PHOTOSHOOT - Thursday p4+5 and homework
Take 20+ photos linking to what you planned previously. Upload.
Task 3: EDIT
Apply what you have learnt previously to create two edited photographs in response to the brief.
Task 4: UPLOAD AND REVIEW
Upload to your Experimental Photography page, with a clear title, along with your planning and photoshoot and review:
- What are the positives of this technique? What might it be good for in the future?
- What are the negatives or limitations to the technique?
- Explain the idea behind the way you have responded to the brief. How would you move forwards from here?
